Zen Pencils in Brazilian/Portuguese
Great news for everyone waiting for Brazilian/Portuguese translations: Zen Pencils will be updating regularly on the new Brazilian webcomic site Outros Quadrinhos! This site has just launched and is taking popular English webcomics and translating them for a Brazilian audience. The guys behind it are comic industry veterans and professional translators so the lettering is top notch and as good as mine. Twelve of my comics are uploaded already and there will be new ones posted on a regular basis (they are even translating my commentary underneath each comic). You can visit my section here.
I would like to thank everyone who volunteered to translate my comics to Portuguese. There were so many of you and I apologise for having to turn you all down. However, I think Outros Quadrinhos works best for the Portuguese comics as it allows my Brazilian fans to interact with each other, share the comics, find new webcomic series and hopefully it will also attract new readers to Zen Pencils.
I’m not sure how it happened, but Zen Pencils has gained a pretty big following in Brazil. If all goes to plan, I hope to visit for the World Cup next year and meet (and party with) some of you 馃檪 And it would be even better if Australia qualifies for the finals (they need to beat Iraq on Tuesday – fingers crossed!).
Gra莽as a todos voc锚s!
Thanks for remember the brazilians fans!
OH MY GOSH so happy. I’m Brazilian and my English is ok, but a lot of my friend don’t. And I never managed to edit the comics so they would look pretty AND have the text, my skills stop at MS paint 馃榾
Thanks Gavin, and obrigado ao pessoal do’s Outros Quadrinhos!
I am from a magazine and website named Virus Planetario, from Brazil. We have translated some of the ZenPencil鈥檚 comics. It was about teachers in a time when they were on the streets demanding better salaries and good public education for kids. Got a lot of likes and shares (almost 50k).

Thanks for doing that. I like so much of your comics, now I can read in my language. That is a truly writer, a writer that don’t forget of his fans from other countries.
This is really great news! It is nice to know that my friends who don’t speak English will be able to enjoy your work too! Let’s have a beer together next year!

Wow, Gavin, this is really exciting news!
As to the reason your comics are so successful in Brazil, I guess it comes from a wide range of Brazilian bloggers and cartoonists who have mentioned your work on their websites.
Carlos Ruas, for instance, is the author of a very famous webcomics series called “Um S谩bado Qualquer” and he translated one of your comics and posted it on his blog. It was a big hit a the time.
If you are curious, Carlos has an English version of his strips, which he named Once Upon a Saturday: http://www.onceuponasaturday.com/
Thanks Cintia, I didn’t know about that.

Thanks Gav and Outros Quadrinhos!
But Gav, be carefull in the World Cup, we’re being stolen by the politicians and almost living in a civil war, if you really come to here, be really carefull my friend, every day have blood on the streets… I just can’t understand why the tourists insist in to come here.
I would like to know what image you have from our country, because we are so tired of here, the violence, the stolen and the corruption.
The World Cup is always a big tourist drawcard, people from all over the world will be there to celebrate, and I’ve always wanted to visit South America.
World Cup will be a time to protest against all the mess that is upon Brazil Right Now. Great time to come and see Brazilian people fighting for their rights and government using police and army to stop them. In the latest times police were shooting at people on the streets.
Wow. What a pleasant surprise! Thank you Gav. Now I’ll get to read your work in two languages, and see how the translators interpreted it. 馃檪
Muitissimo obrigado!
Ohhhh *-*, it’s amazing! I follow Zen Pencils since 2012, I like your york a lot, Gav!
Thank you! Hugs from Brazil!

I knew Zen Pencils when the brazillian vlogger PC Siqueira posted on Twitter, maybe others found about this great comic around that time too. =]
Cool – didn’t know that either.

Your comics are great, and they’ve been translated to portuguese several times, but it’s nice to do not have to edit the original. My english is fine for understanding (but not for writing, as you can see), but many friends of mine cannot understand your job, which is great. Congrats and thanks!
zen pencils – you rock. no words would be enough to praise this creation. keep up the good work please.
I really think you made a good choice leaving the translation in the hands of “Outros Quadrinhos”. I really enjoy webcomics and you are my favorite international web cartoonist, and now many other people from my country will think the same.
Another brazilian source that spread your work was the humoristic blog “脩 intendo” (http://www.naointendo.com.br/), which translated a few comics.
And good luck if you’re coming, I hope the things here are calmer when that happens.

Hi
I am Brazilian and my English is not very good but I usually read comics and play games in English as a way to increase vocabulary.
Nice to know that your work is being translated, so more people will get to know you.
Congrats for the site
Best Wishes from a new Brazilian fan
Every comic gets better and better! I love this website! Keep up the amazing work! 馃榾
